The Horned Women / by Mariko Brenner

I unfurl my butterfly wings

Swing my armored tail from side to side

Maybe today I will grow horns

Maybe today I will rest my lions feet on the ground

as I bite into your chest...

You are all tenderness and wild ravenous rage

Wrapped up in monstrous self doubt

You respectfully disrespect me

but I don't mind

I just lick the taste of gin and grapefruit from side of your face

Tell you without words

that I am precisely the mythical beast

you have been searching forever for

as I cradled your heart between my paws
